Idea Name:
COMIT - COmputer Monitor Information Transfer

Overview:
Module to transfer data from a computer monitor into a robot.

Concepts/Skills:
Two main modules, one for detecting the flashes, should be similar to Sandwich's line detection. Other module will get signals from detecting module and analyze the signal pattern.

Description:
COmputer Monitor Information Transfer (COMIT): This is more of a module than a robot. While thinking about DIODE, I thought it would be a pain in my rear to try to download from my PC at work to DIODE because they're hardcore about not letting you do anything fun with your computer at work like fiddle with serial ports. So I could write software that runs on the PC and flashes a little box on the screen black and white. Then you hold this module up to the monitor and it receives the flashes. You run into some problems with monitor refresh rates and stuff, so it would start out with some initial sequence that the circuit reads to calibrate the expected time for a long flash and short flash, then it moves into data transfer. Then I could use COMIT module to download maps and names and stuff into DIODE. Forget the LCD and buttons to pick who DIODE will drive to, you just pick them from a dropdown on a web page, hold DIODE up to the screen, hit "GO" and then a Java applet flickers a box on your screen and COMIT module receives the data and then DIODE readss it from COMIT. Nice!!!
