Overview:
Carpet crawlers who chase eachother, with perhaps some sound fx thrown in

Concepts/Skills:
Basic navigation and obstacle avoidance would be a start. Then they'd need the ability to find eachother (one to chase, the other to run away). For more advanced mode they would need to talk to eachother to agree when the game starts and when it ends.

Description:
I know I read this idea somewhere else, but can't remember where, so don't think this is mine. Either way, I love when Harry & Lloyd play tag in Dumb & Dumber, so I want some slapstick carpet crawlers who chase eachother around the living room. They'd need some basic obstacle avoidance capabilities. They also need the ability to decide who's "IT" and they need to be able to find each other; "IT" needs to know which way to chase the victim, and the victim needs to know where "IT" is so she can run away. It'll be like Pepe LePew and that cat he's always after. And lastly, they'd need a way to decide that "IT" has tagged the victim, perhaps proximity as determined by IR, or maybe put a ring of metal around the outside of each one that touches when they make contact, but doing it like that would mean you need obstacle avoidance that's not whisker- or collision-based. For fun, I'd try to build these guys without a microcontroller, using only comparators and 555's for the logic and IR transmissions (assuming IR is used for communication). If using microcontroller, it would be fun to put a PWM limit on the victim so "IT" is always a drop faster, and have "IT" do a count-down to give the victim a head start. And then "IT" can play the Jaws or Psycho music to make the victim scared. Or maybe they'd have sound fx like "you cant triple-stamp a double-stamp" or other selected Dumb & Dumber comments. Naturally they'd be decorated in the Blue & Orange tuxedos.
