Idea Name:
Sean Paul's Robot Troupe

Overview:
Group of small robots who "dance" to the music

Concepts/Skills:
Some sound/music analysis software might be used. Mainly will involve many robots doing things synchronized, but it does not have to be real team work, they can just be programmed individually to make a fun looking show. Lots of precise movements to appear to dance to music.

Description:
This is a dancing bunch of robots. The inspiration is the Sean Paul music the young kids like to listen to. Not much autonomy, more concentration on having things move in a set pattern to exact timing. Could be something like a bunch of little guys who do pre-programmed maneuvers while a coreographer robot calls the shots. He could either detect the beat himself (probably hard, but maybe there's some existing audio analysis packages like the software that's in the WinAMP visualizers, I'll have to check out AVR Freaks for a C program that does what I need) or I could come up with a way to program in the beat. Then he'll emit RF or IR pulses that the dancers respond to. Could do some fun stuff by using lighting to spot light on different soloist robots at different times. For real fun have a little guy with a smoke machine (like one of the really small model train smoke stacks) and others who do laser beams through the smoke. This whole idea is up in the clouds, but would be really fun as a test of making lots of robots do stuff in coordination, even if it is limited in its autonomous-ness.
