Hedge Court Robots: Mini-Sumo

You are here: Hedge Court | Robots | Mini-Sumo

When I first started thinking about building robots, I wasn't interested in sumo. I'm not sure why, but I thought it was stupid. That all changed when I went to Robot Room and watched a video off this little tiny robot zipping around, pushing cans of soup and blocks of wood off of a little platform. I was convinced at once that this is the kind of robot I want to build. Just to watch them drive around looking for targets and then pushing them around.

Sumo Robots are a great kind of robots for an amature to build. They can be as simple or sophisticated as you want and they can be as cheep or expensive as you want. There are bots you can buy that will play sumo right out of the box, kits that are easy to assemble, or you can build one from scratch. There's tons of information out on the web with ideas and modules that you can use. And its just down right fun to watch these little guys go at it autonomously.

I haven't started building a sumo robot yet, but after I finish my Sandwich, then I'll probably start in on some sumo action. In the meantime, this is more of an Ideas section than a story about a real robot.
